Cannonborough Elliotborough Neighborhood Association President Ryan Glushkoff sent out a quick note to the neighbors today. Here is what he said:
This has attachments to it, so I have to send this separately from the regular neighborhood. But if you have ever had the desire to be a Citizen on Patrol (yes, just like Steve Guttenberg!), this is your chance – details below and application forms attached.
And you need some theme music to get you going, CLICK HERE!
If you sign up, you’ll even get to ride along in a real patrol car!
Regular update coming later – but if I don’t get the chance, remember to check out the Holy City Artists & Fleas – it’s tomorrow, Saturday, Feb 12th at Eye Level 10 am to 4 pm.
And here is the letter from the Charleston Police Department:
Neighborhood Presidents, residents, merchants and City staff,
The Charleston Police Department will host its 2011 Citizens’ Training Academy Thursday Evenings in March from 6-9pm. It will be held in the Charleston Police Department Training Room at 180 Lockwood Blvd. The Citizens’ Academy is free, but pre-registration is required. Please plan to attend all five nights.
The interactive Class Agenda will include learning about the structure of the police department and day-to-day and emergency operations, as well as various Crime Prevention topics. A CPR class will also be offered to participants on Saturday March 26. Participants will also be encouraged to do on-duty ride-alongs with patrol officers. The goal is that with better understanding, citizens will better avail themselves, their neighborhoods, or their businesses of Police services. This will serve to reduce their crime risk and support Department initiatives.
All citizens are invited to attend, residency is not required but if maximum class size is reached (approx 35), City residents or merchants would be given preference.
Application Deadline Monday February 28, Classes begin Thursday March 3.
