Downtown Charleston’s Rental Market

Those searching for a rental downtown Charleston are finding it a bit easier these days with over half a dozen large apartment buildings opening on the peninsula. In just the past few years, numerous groups have been building high end apartment buildings to meet the rising demand for affordable housing. The result of this has been a larger volume of rentals that has essentially flooded the market. The most notable of these are the Meeting St Lofts with one bedroom studio apartments starting at $1,490 a month. This continues down to the luxury student apartment complex, Skygarden; totaling almost six apartment developments off of Meeting Street. These new rentals may be a reason the rental market is slowing and will ultimately make it more difficult for smaller landlords to get the same occupancy and rates as they once could. This will eventually be offset by the constant influx of people moving to Charleston from all over the world. Here's a look at some of the new apartment buildings along Meeting Street...1) Live Caroline: Beautiful apartments next to the police station on Lockwood Blvd and across the street from the Joe Riley Stadium, great view of Riverfront Park. Studio apartments start at $1545 a month with one month free. https://livecaroline.com/2) Meeting Street Lofts: Modern apartments in a post-industrial style building, right on the corner of Meeting and Huger. Nearby to some of Charleston's best breweries, this apartment complex is sure to please the most hip among us. The manager, Kane corporation, is offering lots of benefits to first comers of these soon to be completed luxury apartments. http://meetingstreetlofts.com/3) Elan Midtown: These apartments at the corner of Spring and Meeting have a more generic feel with a large variety of different styles and layouts ranging from studio apartments to two bedrooms. These are managed by Greystar with an attempt to appeal to professionals with prices starting at $1703 a month. https://www.elanmidtown.com/4) My House on Meeting: 39 Luxury Student apartments that start at $1090 a month with four bedroom and two bedroom units available. These apartments boast of the largest floor plans on the market and they are managed by AMP. This luxury student housing should not be missed by any prospective College of Charleston students. https://www.mhonmeeting.com/
